1. CONFIRM YOUR ACCEPTANCE

  • Respond to all correspondence sent from your graduate program
  • For all questions regarding your offer of admission, please contact your Graduate Program Coordinator
  • The Graduate Department Directory is available here

2. YOUR SBU ID# AND SOLAR LOGIN

  • Login to SOLAR using your SBU ID# and password as you were instructed in your offer of admission email
  • Review any holds posted on your account & submit the requested documents/information
  • For more information on accessing SOLAR, please contact the Division of Information Technology. You can visit their SOLAR help page for students here

3. IMMUNIZATION AND MENINGITIS INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS

  • In accordance with New York State Public Health Law, Stony Brook University requires that all students born on or after January 1, 1957, must provide proof of immunity against measles, mumps and rubella. The state also requires that all students receive information about meningococcal disease

4. FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE GRADUATE BULLETIN AVAILABLE HERE

  • Students are responsible for reviewing, understanding and abiding by the University's regulations, procedures, requirements and deadlines as described in official publications and calendars. This includes the Graduate Bulletin, Tuition Liability deadlines, and Academic Calendars

5. NEW GRADUATE STUDENT ORIENTATION

  • All new incoming students are required to visit the Graduate School's website to view the online Graduate Orientation Podcasts
  • New PhD students and Masters students supported as TA's are required to attend a TA Orientation, given before the start of the Fall semester. For more information visit our website
  • By Invitation only, new PhD or Masters students who may be supported as an RA, will be invited to attend a Research Compliance workshop. For more information, visit our website

6. SELECT YOUR CLASSES

  • Make a list of courses you plan to take
  • Discuss your options with your assigned faculty advisor or graduate program coordinator
  • A list of courses offered is available on the Registrar's website

7. REGISTER FOR CLASSES

  • Students register for classes on SOLAR
  • Information, including how to get started and enroll in courses on SOLAR is available here

9. PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION ON CAMPUS

  • All students wishing to park on University campuses or use our transportation services, please visit the Transportation and Parking Services website for information on how to obtain a parking permit, parking maps and other important information

10. GET YOUR ID CARD

  • To obtain an ID card, please bring with you one form of government issued photo identification (e.g. a driver's license, passport, etc.) to the Campus Card office. For more information, please visit the Campus Card Program's website

11.  ESTABLISH NEW YORK RESIDENCY - FOR DOMESTIC STUDENTS ONLY

  • Students who are currently charged at the non-resident rate, and wish to be considered for resident tuition should review the eligibility requirements, and complete a residency application if they feel they are eligible.
